Shirley,
If the Descendant Book Report looks good to you then go with it.
But at the risk of making your dilema a trilema, had you considered using
something other than Legacy to present the story. Legacy was not designed
as a photo album and can be a bit clunky if you were trying to present a
collection of 1000+ images. Legacy acknowleges that and promotes a product
called Heritage Collector, which I dont't know but implies that your photos
and documents could be presented in a professional way, but it looks
expensive. It does sound like you should preserve the postcard collection
digitally but then you need to find a way of presenting the collection or a
story from that. There is an upcoming webinar on Google glass by Devin
Ashby, he did an earlier webinar in which he showed how to create a short
video, suitable for Youtube, using slideshow, royalty free music and sound
effects and his own daughters doing voiceovers as part of the commentary.
Legacy version 8 now allows website URL entries in all the galleries
(individual, source , event , etc.) and many applications provide a URL ,
so Youtube clips, WebAlbums and the like can be tied into you Legacy
database. I used a free download from Microsoft called Photostory on the
old XP system which allowed me to create a complete story of a single
photo, it was a photo of a christening with 4 generations of the family. I
just used the same photo repeatedly in each frame, starting with a fully
zoomed out shot and then using pan and zoom to focus on a different
individual in each frame. I was then able to record a voiceover commentary
for each frame using a simple microphone and it gave me the story of the
event and information on the individuals in the photo. I just link it to
Legacy in the christening event as a document and Windows selects the
default application for the filetype. I have also used Picasa WebAlbums (
now on Google Plus) to present my holiday snaps, I just have a Holiday
event and in the gallery a Website defined entry with the URL which Google
provides for the specific WebAlbum.
Whatever you do , it sounds like a big project just by itself, so good luck
with that.
Rick
