Thankyou to all for your suggestions, enthusiasm and encouragement. Kathy, Jenny and Rick, between "us" the Descendant Book Report (including Events) looks awesome! The occasional Postcard events with relevant snippets of information transcribed in italics gives life and soul to the whole report. I also use the collection as a source for the other relevant basic events/facts.
Yes Pauline I bought Flip Pal especially to scan the postcards. Haven't completed it yet - big job. They are all picture postcards, over a 1,000 in all - some with just birthday or Christmas greetings and blank ones which would have been sent with letters. They include my great-grandparents as they range from 1903 and were sent within England, and subsequently to/from NZ after my grandparents emigrated to NZ 1906 and 1909 (my grandfather returned after 3 years to marry his "sweetheart"). Three cheers for LUG !! Shirley NZ ----- Original Message ----- From: Pauline B. Who was the recipient? What information was communicated? When was the postcard sent? Where were the recipient and sender? Were any of these picture postcards? Of what? These postcards gives you a way mapping your grandparent's lives and how they influenced the lives of others. How fascinating! You might consider scanning each card, front and back, possibly with a small scanner (example: Flip Pal), and treating them as photos, which could be attached to Legacy, if desired, and adding short descriptions. I have spent many hours and days trying different ways of recording the relevant information and have come to the conclusion I need advice from those more experienced.  My first thought was that it is a source. (to quote Jeff "what have you got in your hand")  But I want to be able to choose if a transcript of the relevant sentences are printed on reports or not and this can be achieved by entering as an Event with a Master Source only (no detail)  So I have tried a Post Card Event which seems to work.  Before I get too far down the track as I have a huge number to enter, can anyone see any problems with this or able to suggest something better.  Kind Regards Shirley NZ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
