Hi Norma, You are confusing numbers. AFN are Ancestral File Numbers - nothing to do with ahnentafel numbers. You may or may not have entered some AFN numbers and may or may not have opted to include them in your report. They are something to do with FamilySearch - and have been superseded by their new FamilySearch Tree ID numbers. If you chose to include them, and you only have them entered for some people, that would explain the variation.
The ahnentafel numbers only apply to direct ancestors and are applied automatically in an Ancestor Book Report, and a Pedigree Chart. They are not in the Ancestor Chart which has a generation number. If in a child list two people have an Arabic number (1, 2, etc) then both are your direct ancestors. All the children in a child list have a lowercase Roman number (i, ii, etc) The ahnentafel number depends on the starting person. You may also find that the report is including the RIN for each person - this is their number in your database that enables the database to function. It has no significance for anybody but you and your database. You may want to have another look at the report and the report options and then clarify what you are asking.
