I still miss the information pop-up as well.
Another (and quicker work around is to set up the Descendant View with
useful columns and limit it to 2 or 3 generations and you can get that
overview you used to be able to get by mousing over the children and
seeing the pop-up.
I also find the scrolling grid next to useless as you can't see all the
children at once. It's fine for recent families but not for previous
generations where I spend my time.
