Is there one in the list with no extension? That is your data file and it does not need to be restored, Just double click on that one and Windows will start Legacy and load that file. Windows will suppress the extensions for files it knows how to open so that even though your data file has a .fdb extension Windows does not display the .fdb in the filename.

The files with those other extensions are support files created by Legacy when you use certain features. PPL is the potential problems list, FG is for focus groups etc. The dates on those support files come from the last time the file was used so you may not have used the feature for those 2013 and 2017 dated files.

I found the file in Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data. There are 9 entries with
the new name but different types: FG, FSD, H1, H2, SC, TC, HDB, PPL, RGD
None are zipped. SC, TC, HDB are dated May 22, 2018. All others have earlier
dates – 2013 and 2017.

Can any of these be restored? If so, how?

Thanks. Donna

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Lost family file after name change

You may have messed up the 3 digit file extension when you renamed it.  Legacy
stores the files in Documents.  The main executable file is shown with a blue
dot with a letter L in the middle.  The file name is shown with no extension in
the list of files in the Data File but when the file is open on the desktop the
file is shown to have a .fdb extension.

If you left this file in the Legacy folder when it was renamed, you should be
able to rename it again correctly so that it will work.  The place to look
would be in the Data file which is found in the Legacy folder.  It is found in
Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data.

I changed the name of a family file and thought I did everything correctly. The
file with the original name still appears in the list  but it is empty. I can
not find the file with the new name. I did refresh the list. How can I get my
family back?
Thanks.    Donna
