You might want to ask the question “What are the problems with state abbreviations?” I, for one would not recommend this action. However, if you choose to do this, use the master locations list to edit your locations entered in location fields. For those in notes and other places you would need to use search and replace.

I wish to abbreviate place names in my database and I hope to be able to format my individual changes only once and then apply that change to all instances of this name in the database.
