You can do this if you want to. If you have an international audience I
suggest you don't do it for the Long Location and use that when
communicating with non-Americans. eg MA is not one of the state codes I
know.
This is how: There are tools in the Master Location List to do this.
Click the Options button and then Expand/Contract Location parts. Read
the whole screen and the Help to this screen.
There are not options for all other countries here so there is another
way. You may need to use it if you haven't kept to the US standard 4
field locations.
This is what I use: Search and Replace on Lists - Location for the long
form of the location name and Lists-Location Short for the Short form.
Again read the whole screen and make sure you are only replacing found
text with the replacement text. It's often wise to include the commas to
avoid changing text in the middle of words - especially if you are
expanding.

This is my first post to the mailing list.
I wish to abbreviate place names in my database and I hope to be able
to format my individual changes only once and then apply that change
to all instances of this name in the database.
For instance, if I wish to change "Massachusetts" to "MA" in every
instance that it is found, how would I accomplish this without
changing every individual instance?
Thanks in advance,
Peter
