Hmm. I wonder how our post office will tell the difference between Bangor, North Wales and Bangor, Northern Ireland if the address is Bangor, UK. (unless the post (zip) code is also included).

Here in NZ, NZ Post's standard is, when addressing mail to England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland that UK be used instead of the country
name.

My personal view is that this  confuses the issue of addresses; and if one
extends the argument further why not skip the country and use economic blocs
or continent!
