Interesting thread - I was about to make Mary's point about Scots women
having their maiden surname on the grave marker.

I don't think there is a 'one size fits all" answer to the married name
issue. If you had a blanket "use married name" for name tags etc - what do
you do about the women who never changed their names on marriage. I like to
use the rolodex address book and enter the person's preferred name for name
tags and mailings, its easy enough to copy and paste and that way you can be
sure to get what you want in printouts.
