I get over the path problem for Pictures by moving My Pictures on both my desktop and laptop out of My Documents and have it directly under the root directory (that is, in C:\). Legacy Pictures is a folder within My Pictures with subfolders within it.
This keeps the path for pictures identical.

However I keep all other Legacy Data in a Legacy folder in My Docs. I hate having to sort through Program Files to backup all my data. It's bad enough having to search for program settings but their loss isn't as vital.

Moving My Pictures out of My Docs has made it easier to back up the whole My Docs folder as well. It was getting far too big with the Pictures included.

Cathy

Hi, Brian and other LUGers -

I would caution *against* putting your Legacy data in a subdirectory of "My
Documents" if you ever intend to share your data with someone else or if you
need to move it from one location to another (say from a laptop to your PC
and back again). This is because what Legacy stores in your database is the
path name for your picture documents and while "My Documents" seems like a
fairly simply path name, it's not - especially if you're using Windows XP.

"My Documents" is really a subdirectory of the specific login name on your
particular computer. In other words, it's machine-specific. Although it
can be made to sync up with another computer's directory structure, it would
be a royal pain to do so. If you put all your Legacy data in a subdirectory
off the root directory (and not in "My Documents") you can avoid all that
and make it very easy to share data or temporarily move data WITHOUT losing
all your picture links.

Just something to keep in mind if you're thinking about reorganizing the way
photos and links are stored on your computer.
