I agree Linda that flash drives can fail. However, I have one in my pocket that I carry with me every day and have had it for 3 1/2 years now. It works great. I use it daily as my main data drive. I use my computers hard disks as the backup.
I have only had 1 of my 7 flash drives fail in the 5 years I have been using them. I do want to point out that I never use one medium to store all my data. I do have back up files on different computers with both internal and external hard drives. I have about 2.78 TB of storage, so backing up is getting tougher each day.<RBG> Glen Ballard -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Linda Bischoff Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2006 2:46 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [LegacyUG] flash drives for backup Be aware that flash drives can fail. My daughter lost some very important college work by saving her work on a flash drive that failed. (It was a Sony, so buying a good one doesn't make a difference.) I regularly use the flash drive to move work from one computer to another, but not to save info permanently. For backups. you can get a 256MB flash drive for under $25. Well worth the investment for the privacy of your information.
