A surname prefix field with a master list of those surname prefixes to standardize them would be a great addition to Legacy. That way, many of the surnames that have a prefix would be listed in the surname master index together, separate from their prefix. I have asked for such a feature before without any response. Surnames like "von Wagner" and "Wagner" would be the same surname but with the surname prefix set to "von" the master surname list would not have 2 entries for "Wagner". Many other surname prefixes would follow the same pattern like ap, de, de la, della, d', fitz, etc. There would be no requirement to separate the surname prefixes if the user did not want to but for those who wished to have a tool for better standardization of surname, this would be great. Also needed with the surname prefix would be an option to indicate whether the prefix would be separated from the surname by a space or not. That way the user could specify a name like "De Spencer" or "Despencer".

There should also be a location prefix. I would call it a location modifier. It would be another master list of those location modifiers such as near, from, of, etc. That way, again, the master locations would not need to contain the modifiers but would be pure locations and then the individual or marriage record that wanted a modifier for any location could apply them from the location modifiers list. There would no longer be any entries in the master location list like "near Charlotte,...", "from Charlotte...", "of Charlotte...", etc. as well as the main entry for "Charlotte...". This is really the whole purpose for having "master lists" and with the current configuration there are many duplicates because of the location modifiers.
