Hi Matthias,

I don't think the lejos linux 2.1.0 version could be described as working. Jurgen Stuber said the following in response to me posting a query re: running lejos2.1.0 on ubuntu 2.6.12-9-386 (ie. a recent kernel):-

"Your version of Lejos is too old for the driver in Linux 2.6,
you should instead try the CVS version. It should work, tell us if it doesn't and we'll fix it."

Admittedly I was a bit lazy and used your compiled lejos 3.0 binaries instead of the CVS version, which I am assuming are very similar. That fixed the firmware download, but I still couldn't download any executables to the RCX.

I'm not sure what is happening with the winxp installation either. With lejos2.1.0 I can download the firmware to the RCX, but again cannot download any executables.

I think my problem may lie with the RCX itself. As far as I can tell it is RIS2.0. However I bought it brand new very recently (say 3 months ago). Do you think it is possible that the RCX box has changed recently? i.e. Your RCX is different from mine? Suse 9.2 is also a 2.6 kernel and you say the latest lejos is working?!?, but presumably you have owned your lego brick for ages. Would this explain why the firmware won't accept any downloads?

Maybe I will try with your latest windows version, but if that doesn't work I don't see any obvious ways of progressing.

David

ps I have used the RCX with the bundled windows software, which does allow me to download programs, so my RCX isn't broken.

Hallo David,

thanks for trying.

As for windows, I have uploaded an enhanced M2 version to
http://www.matthias-paul-scholz.homepage.t-online.de/lejos/
that passes the integration tests and works fine for me on my Windows XP installation.

However, if you get an error for the windows lejos 2.1.0 version yet, there seems to be something more profound amiss with lejos on your Windws XP partition - for this release is known to be working well there as a rule; hence before trying to get the leJOS 3 beta running it may be advisable to do so for the 2.1.0 one.

The Linux M1 version works fine for me on two different SuSE 9.2 installations - here the same might apply as said above: the linux 2.1.0 lejos release is known to be working as well.

Regards,
  Matthias

Hi Matthias,

I attempted to use your lejos3.0 release binaries this weekend. Unfortunately I did not have a great success.

On windows the firmware download failed (I don't have the exact output to hand unfortunately). On linux the firmware download appeared to succeed, but I was then unable to download a compiled program to the RCX. Here is the linux output:-

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/my_downloads/lejos/lejos.3.0.0-M1/samples/test/hworld$ firmdl
read firmware srec
  100%
Segment 0: length = 14578
Segment 1: length = 2940

Deleting firmware
Firmware deleted

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/my_downloads/lejos/lejos.3.0.0-M1/samples/test/hworld$
lejosdl HelloWorld.bin
read binary
  100%
download binary
Loading native libs
RCX not responding

The RCX is switched on, is in range of the tower and displays the battery volatage as 8.6 and then a zero. The LED in the tower glows green for a few seconds before lejosdl exits.

This error when running lejosdl is very similar to the error I get on Windows when running the 2.1.0 version of lejosdl. i.e. The current status of all the lejos versions I have tried is as follows:-
       linux2.1.0 - firmware download failure
linux3.0.0 - firmware success / compiled binary download failure
win2.1.0 - firmware success / compiled binary download failure
win3.0.0 - firmware download failure

Therefore I have not managed to run the helloworld program on the RCX at all yet, which is a bit disappointing.

David

ps The linux version I am using is ubuntu breezy 2.6.12-9-386 and windows is an uptodate version of winxp.

Hi David, Juergen,

A first preview of the upcoming leJOS 3.0 release (lejos-3.0.0-M1, which is the current leJOS CVS state) can be found at

http://www.matthias-paul-scholz.homepage.t-online.de/lejos/

There are Linux and Windows version available presently.

Both versions have passed the existing integration tests (which are not too overwhelming in number, though).

The Linux version has run stable for me on SUSE 9.2, the windows version is brand new (today!) and will be stress tested in course of the next days.

 Matthias

It's been down for 2 weeks, no mention of anonymous cvs

windows version instead. :-(

I put the CVS version of today from developer CVS at
http://www.jstuber.net/java/lejos_2006-02-01.tar.gz

I only tested that it compiles.
