Hi All,

I'm sort of stretched for time this week but I'd love to help with this.

I'm on osx and I don't have a linux box to test on... but hopefully if it works on osx it will be more likely to work on linux...

There is a USB Java spec (jsr 88) that has a partial implementation and apparent instructions to build out an impl on any platform. Perhaps its worth looking at? Has anyone else done any work on that?

Also, quick question. How are you all debugging the native code? Are you starting up the lejos foo and attaching a java debugger then attaching gdb to the process and setting breakpoints in the C code? While this works it is cumbersome, has anyone tried the C++ env for Eclipse? Would be interesting to see if one could load the native code and the java code into one IDE and do cross JNI boundary debugging. If some one has done that I'd love to hear about it.

TTFN,

The infrared communication problems should be documented more obviously in the online lejos tutorial.

That's a good idea indeed - I'll see to that.

It's true that it's mention in the lejos-discussion, but finding references there takes lots of digging. As a beginner, trying to follow the tutorial, I just assumed there was something wrong with my software setup or RCX, which wasted lots of my time. -David

ps I never had any problems with the lego bundled software, under the same conditions, so I think the infrared communication is exacerbated when using lejos, but presumably if this was easy to fix you would have done so :-).

Well, I'm just a simple country doctor...
As a matter of fact, there has been efforts (by Markus Heiden in particular) to increase reliability (contained in leJOS cvs's src/ comms/lib(j)irctrcx2 folders) - however, they aren't working for Linux presently, hence haven't made it to the distribution yet.

Cheers,
 Matthias
