Do keep backups. Modifying metadata with exiv2/exiftool > *will* corrupt raws. I know, it is dangerous. I keep backups for a while. At least what I did, I did not recognize a problem and I could use it with dt as before. But yes, I hate it to do such things and I have broken my own rule, never change an original. But these Sigma-ROMs are so buggy. The Sigma 8-16 doesn't write the correct focal length always, sometimes it is 0, AFAIR from 8-10mm. So what can I do than correct the original? The raw-corrections of the 8-16 didn't make a problem for over 1 year. A 24mm lens must be corrected and I am working on a workaroud. AFAIK Sigma saved money with older lenses and did not license them. They wrote only "Sigma" or "Sigma lens" in the metadata, and did not specify the lens. So my question is, what can be done? At least for Pentax fullformat some old lenses have no alternative and the quality is good. When I do have a solution, I will create correction photos, but it is useless, if the dt doesn't recognize the lens. So I want to change the metadata with a testfile as needed and try a lensfun-correction of a similar lens and see if something changes, when used with dt.
