Jesse,

Thanks for the response and the data points!

I guess I'm wondering how/why it was taught in the mid-60's and not in
the 'oughts (2000's)--I'm assuming it was part of the curriculum (or at
least in textbook(s?)) when I went to school, but not when you went to
school.

Textbook makers accidentally dropped it? Intentionally dropped it? Ran
out of space? Or maybe I'm misremembering and learned about Malthus
somewhere other than the classroom? In those days (and for quite a
while since) I did a lot of reading.

I'm interested in hearing from others.

I guess maybe I should say that at the time I heard of Malthus and for a
long time since, I've been very pessimistic about "life". Looking
back, I'm not sure that pessimism was (fully) warranted. On the other
hand, there have been a lot of wars, genocidal activities, diseases,
economic recessions of various degrees, etc.--maybe they were the ill
effects of overpopulation and also served as a pressure relief that (so
far) kept things from getting worse?
