Another "tantalizing" idea:  In practice, there is usually little
difference between the outlines one would get from @auto  or @file.

In particular, for both @auto and @file the order of nodes in the
outline is the same as the order of nodes in the external file, except
that the outline in @file trees might contain a few "extra" nodes.

Thus, in most cases, we could recreate effect of @file trees by
inserting comment (sentinel) lines only for organizer nodes.

Of course, clone links do not exist in @auto nodes, which is a
problem :-)  This is the reason I continue to search for alternatives
to clones.
