The paste-retaining-clones will not change anything from the clipboard content, but the user will expect this command to create new nodes at least for some of the copied tree. If you devise a new copy-template function, then after the first paste-retaining-clones execution every next execution will create just the clone of the outline pasted the first time i.e. all nodes will be cloned not just some of them.
