I've managed to get some more work done on the flexible pieces,  
anyone interested can try http://gerf.org/~leo/leocad-hose.zip

   One thing I noticed about lsynth is that it allows (requires) the  
user to specify the direction of the control points, how important is  
this? I can see it being useful for the end points but just taking  
the curve tangent for the center points seems easier to me. You could  
even use a 2nd control point near the edges to remove the need of  
specifying any orientations at all.

   I still need to add a way of adding/deleting control points but I  
think most of the functionality is there.
