Warren, I was thinking the same thing first, but then: How can you know
how many of the registered users had problems? You could only guess if
there was a huge number registered, compared to a small number of posts.
And even checking posters against registrants might be difficult, given
that one can use different names.
For that kind of feedback it might be useful to put an additional
question within the registration process.
By the way, Dan, I wouldn't want to say that having a problem building
LFS always makes the book need improvement. The important thing is that
the book helps you to solve that problem, because that is how you learn
more about your system. Some might profit most from the essential
pre-reading, others might find their answer in the hints - e.g. there's
a great hint on what do to on errors - and then there's this mailing
list whenever other sources fail.
So, "who made it through cleanly on the first try" maybe has just missed
a great learning experience ;)
