That explains 'bind-mounts'.

Is that what you are trying to figure out - what bind-mounts are? Or do
you know, and instead are not understanding why they work in a particular
context?

I'd say lfs doesn't need to expound on that more: the earlier chapters
indicate that some background knowledge/experience is ... useful; and I'd
expect that would include looking up (if not already) 'man mount' or googling
the info; and you'd see that bind-mounts are quite straightforward really.
