Why are we called 'VISTA VOLUNTEERS'? Well, I suppose it is because we leave our homes to work 60 hrs a week plus on an income of $700 a month. That is not 'income' by the way....it is a stipend. Pays food lodging and gas...we provide our own vehicles.
Is the definition troubling you? take it up with the Corporation for National and Community Service /Americorps. And do I agree with your statements? Absolutely...that is PART of it. You still need to face the reasons BEHIND the lack of these things. Can you think back to the first post? IT was a celebration, in the Salt Lake Tribune, of a CANDY COMPANY that was successfully run by KIDS and who's parents were gaining employment. What do you suppose was so special about that, the *kids* part or the *successful* part?
