Basically I agree that it is preferable to have all formatting functions in
both flavors, as direct formatting and as style. But we are talking about a
piece only, meaning the gradient (and other area fill options) is always bound
to an object. So the expected workflow is to define a paragraph style, or a
drawing style, etc. including the gradient.
Of course we could also save the area presets (excluding solid color) as
styles. But I expect trouble to understand this special workflow. And many
users may expect the opposite behavior as known from today.
Btw, how does it work in other tools?
