Subject: Lib.HD problem - Win'98 FAT/FAT32 u/s
Hello All
Assistance appreciated with my Libretto problem...! It's a Libretto 110 -
purchased in Hong Kong earlier this year, presumed identical to the USA
model (has American keyboard layout). Original English language Windows '98
installation.
Problem:-
Win'98 error message reported a disk write error; mouse and keyboard
(including caps.lock and num.lock) frozen. After a long wait, I switched it
off with the power switch on the screen.
When re-booted, after the BIOS password is accepted, I see "HDC error" on
the screen and a boot disk is requested.
Re-booting with the floppy drive and recovery diskette in place, the Win'98
startup menu appears and reports that Win'98 has detected that drive C does
not contain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition.
Are there any recovery tools for this kind of disaster? Is the factory
Win'98 installation FAT32?
I'm currently "stuck" on a beach on a small Thai island, so any and all
thoughts and suggestions would be very welcome - Thanks In Anticipation!
Sincerely... Steve
