You might like to check out Steve Gibson's site at http://grc.com (yes, I
know it doesn't look long enough!) - he's done a lot of work on recovering
failed disks.
Off the top of my head, I'd say you have a choice of problems (in
approximate order of severity):
o mechanical/electrical hard disk failure, might be recoverable if you can
replace the electronics with an identical model
o FAT table somehow garbaged - e.g. chernobyl (CIH) virus - in which case
you can probably use Steve's stuff to recover it
o Partition table trashed...fdisk /mbr from a windows recovery disk might
spring it back to life.
The last is the most likely I guess, but read through Steve's pages before
you do *anything* to it...
