I don't see how they can run 'too fast' as long as the drive behaves
according to the EIDE interface specs, which it should or else!
eg. if the Libretto runs at a 16MB/sec. EIDE interface speed, then the HD
will recognize that it can't go the UDMA 33/66/100 modes, and should simply run
itself at the slower interface speed w/o any problems.
For the people who have gotten their 12/20GB HDs to work, I haven't heard
anything about their HDs running so fast they're losing data and such. In any
case, I'd try one out myself first if I had a Libretto because I'd fill up a
8GB in an instant. Of course, if you're own needs don't require more than the
2-3GB most people use, then the remaining 4-6GB on a 8GB HD is really wasted
and you shouldn't bother with a 12/20GB HD at all.
If, however, for some reason those new HDs can't run at the slower interface
speed (ie. they took out backwards EIDE compatibility), then I'd hide under a
rock and buy an IBM instead.
