I agree with others that the 16MB RAM upgrade is the best investment
you can make for your Lib50. I also upgraded my hard drive to a 6GB
drive. With these two changes, the Lib50 will work efficiently with
Windows 95 software.

The Lib50 with 32MB RAM will run office suites, Web design software,
and sound editing programs. About two years ago I used my Lib50 to
demonstrate a Web site with its sound files, photos, frames, and text.
Because I would have only the equipment I could easily carry onto the
airplane, I didn't have an external monitor or speakers available. With
a good set of earphones and a well-positioned chair for the viewer, I
was able to present a good poster session at the professional meeting.
Some people were very interested in the computer as well as the
Web site.

Windows CE was developed for a different class of computers--the handheld
computers with keyboards and the palm Pocket PC (and earlier models).
Other writers have criticized these devices. However, in my opinion they
are excellent work and travel companions. They have "pocket" versions of
Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer. The handheld computers have Pocket Access.
These are not the full-blown versions of the program, but they serve very
well for writing, collecting data. For example, Pocket Word does not import
tables. However, for writing and editing tasks, P Word will translate and
read .doc, text, .rtf files, etc. These devices are much more convenient for
keeping calendar, to dos, and contacts information up-to-date. You can also
carry your digital picture album, listen to music, and record voice notes
for later use. Used with the Lib50, one of these devices doesn't add much
weight but does add much flexibility and ease of use.
