It's worth getting an external faster modem for that machine, yes. It will
work with the slower modem but it obviously won't be fast.
(caveat: it must be a 'proper' modem, not a winmodem - most of those won't
work under linux. But a 28.8 is almost certainly a proper modem. Diamond do
a nice external modem - I think it's called the e56Pro but I'm not sure -
which I use at home)
What you could do is try the software with the slower modem and see if you
like the way it works. If you want I can zap a cdrom and post it to you, or
you can download the latest ISO image from the smoothwall site
www.smoothwall.org
There's a little bit of admin to set up the other computers but we can help
if that's a problem :)
