David, If you had a list of people who had success getting the HP M820E CD-R/RW drive going in DOS on a L70, you can add one more. I'm sure the noisy gear grinding spurts getting the laser into position here and there is a common sound in all these drives, if perhaps all similar drives. My EXP made similar, but a bit quieter noises. But I'm wondering if what I'm hearing from this HP is normal. It's kind of hard to describe. It whirs with a wonderfully smooth and relatively quiet sound like a cat purring, but then, I assume when the laser is being re-positioned, it kind of makes a sharp gear gnashing noise, that's a bit louder than the EXP drive.
