well, on my hp 820e, when it reads a continous file off the CD, it doesn't make any noticable noise besides the disc spinning. but if you read a bunch of random files, then it does a bit of head hunting, which is for sure louder than the silent Sony CRX100E USB external 5 1/4" drives. However, nothing really that I would grossly object to or mind during normal use.... In any case, I suppose mine was bought from a previous smoker, so the writes had stopped about 1/3rd of the way through for no reason one day. Simply disassembled the entire thing (easy, thank Ricoh for smart design), applied some Valvoline spray lubricant (sold at auto stores, supposidly better than WD-40) on the drive rails, then put it together. Ran Nero's CD Speed's Random Seek tests on it a few times, and it went back to normal. ----- ===== adorable toshiba libretto The latest news and information for the Toshiba Libretto owner. http://www.silverace.com/libretto/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
