That's not correct.

CardBus is PCI in a PC Card form factor.  It is definitely a major
change from the 16-bit cards.  It simply isn't possible to "double the
bus in software."  Unless someone has released a 16-bit USB PC Card
while I wasn't looking you cannot have USB on your L-50.
