the latest Librettos have UDMA ports, but on my L110, I think it's just a PIO
port, so <=16MB/sec transfer rates max, although I think I'm getting about half
that on various benchmarks I had done casually months ago with my 20GB Hitachi.

16MB/sec (Bytes) or 16Mb/sec (bits)? As USB 1.1 purports 12Mb/s, I'm guessing you were seeing transfers of ~8Mbps with the Hitachi.

still, the newer drives with larger buffers reduce the need to go to the disk
as often when reading from the HD, so it'll help keep the transfer rates up.

Doing a bunch of MP3 processing these days, it would be nice to have a fatser HDD.

Have yet to get a cheap firewire card for it to test out that connection to my
dvd-r, but may someday....

Still... there's got to be an upper limit on tranfer speed set by the Lib's inner workings... no?

Matt
