The 8.5 Flash Asset Xtra was still Flash 5, right? This combination would
not be Flash 5 asset (authored in Flash MX) but the Flash 6 player (which
might make sense)? I think it wasn't until Director MX that the asset xtra
supported Flash MX. If that's true, this is interesting evidence that you
can get Flash 5 to support Unicode the same way you can in Flash MX--by
loading external data as described in the Macromedia technote.

...which includes a Flash 5 workaround.

Unfortunately, I've still found no evidence that you can paste into the
authoring application, as was requested in the original post, until MX 2004.
