It is quite possible that I made this up, but I've been involved with 
Director betas since D5, and I just feel sure I remember something 
about that in the distant past.

You've over delivered on the testing front, but just one last 
interesting idea, what happens if you have the number of channels set 
to equal the last channel that's used, say a 100 for example (in the 
movie settings dialog)? Does the sendallsprites take less time than 
it does for exactly the same sprite arrangement, but with the highest 
channel being 1000?
