I took a foray into Xtra territory a couple years ago and, while I was
eventually successful, it was far from simple. I'm a pretty seasoned C++
programmer, and it took quite some effort. I gained a lot of respect for
the folks who write Xtras--it's easily the most difficult task I've tackled
in C++.

The XDK is now, I understand, much better than the older version I was
using (it was a Herculean task just to use MFC with that XDK), and open
source to boot. I'd sign up on the Xtras list and talk to some of the
seasoned hands there.

I'd also solicit opinions from here and Direct-L on other enhancements
people would like to see in the message window. I would personally never
tackle the job unless I thought it would (a) make my life *significantly*
easier, or (b) make others' lives easier, and bring in some well-deserved
cash. You're probably looking at a project that will span months, not days.

Cordially,
