Is this reproducable on any other computers, or just this one you mention? I missed your point earlier that 7 of the 8 playback ok (leading me to think the network thing probably isn't it). Your ability to troubleshoot this will be directly related to how much access you have to your client's machine - which it sounds like you don't have much of. I'd start w/ memory usage (Win NT,2k have their own monitoring panel so you can watch resources as the projector plays), but if the only thing that is different cd to cd is bitmaps, that effort will probably have you chasing your tail.
I think your first step (as in all bug fixing) is to try to replicate the problem as many times in as many different systems as you can. Knowing what specifically you have in your projector would help us try to help you, too: flash, embedded movies, and stuff like that will be handled differently on different Windows machines...
