Hi Dave,

I tried to answer one of your question on the TCP/IP ListServ but didn't
succeed. Since I see you posting here, here is my answer. Sorry for all
other participants of this forum.

I could be wrong but I don't believe so. The "built-in" adapter or any of
the other PCI adapters (for a maximum of four adapters) can individually
be used by OS/2 -OR- (and not "and") by the S/390 counterpart.

Don't forget that as you define these cards in the DevMap, different OS/2
Device Drivers will be assigned (like LAN3274 for use by OS/2, LCS3172 for
use by an S/390 Oeprating System like MVS, VM or VSE. Refer to
SG24-5669-00, Multiprise 3000 Basic Emulated I/O Definitions at
www.redbooks.ibm.com for an excellent redbook on why and how to configure
these adapters.

Typically, but not enforced, is to use the "built-in" card to connect to
an HMC network (in Canada, an HMC is always included in the sale of an
MP3000) and use the other cards to connect the S/390 counterpart.

BTW, in TCP/IP mode these cards cannot be shared between LPARs.

Best of luck. Let me know if you have other questions...

Subject: MP3000-H70's Ethernet Card Question

Can I use the H70's "built in" ethernet card for both SNA to OS/390 and
for
the Support Element's(os/2)
TCP/IP protocol ??

I think the answer is yes because OS/2's TCP/IP doesn't need
to use the DIX protocol...but I need clarification.

Thanks,
Dave
