And you need to have at least a little knowledge of the other editors so
that you don't get stuck on a system without being able to edit anything
-- especially when you break network connectivity and you have to try to
edit something on the 3270 console and vi in line mode is the only thing
that will run.

You really need only a little vi to get by -- I use it only to get Emacs
loaded and running...8-)
