Gerard,

Sure, but yast is on the initrd. Look at the fourth line put out by the
welcome message: "Then start installation with the 'yast' command."

The fact that you're doing an insmod command for dasd_mod, then both
dasd_eckd_mod and dasd_fba_mod, but nothing is showing up in
/proc/dasd/devices is disturbing. Do you get any "registration" messages on
the system console (real or virtual) when you do that? You should see
_something_ if the devices are really attached to the system. As Leland
suggested, you need to make sure that the system has access to those device
numbers.

Mark

I cannot find the yast command , the system that I up and running is the
system off the CD that I think is loaded purely into memory.

Here is the sequence:
Boot off CD
SSH into linux system to format disk :

Last login: Mon Sep 1 13:16:58 2003 from 10.98.246.95

  >>> >>> SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 for S/390 and zSeries <<< <<<

Check with the file README on CD1 for any preparational steps
    before starting the installer.

Then start installation with the 'yast' command.

    have a lot of fun...
