You could use NED, but the other concerns do not change. A 3270 is not a
character-mode terminal. It won't ever behave like a normal Linux
terminal, and only applications like NED that are specially programmed
to deal with 3270 semantics can do full screen operations.

A useful way to think about this is that the Linux/390 console support
is exactly equivalent to having a physical teletype terminal as your
interaction. If it is possible to do an operation on a TTY, it can be
done with a Linux 3270 or HMC console. If you couldn't do it on a TTY,
then you can't do it on those devices.
