overwhelmingly heterosexual. In this country gay activists are quite

Chads actually using Solaris 2.6, meaning he can't apply patches over
files that are currently running or being accessed by other
applications. Version 7 & 8 address these issues. If he really did know
what he was doing, he would drop down into maintainance mode, which
shuts off all services and unnecessary back groud tasks, then he will
not have any problems applying the patches.

That's a simple one to fix tho. Just as long as the user has made an
emergency boot diskette, they boot it and login. Then just type in the
necessary lilo plus option(s).
And reboot and back in business.

Well, I don't say that, at least not about NT. It doesn't suck,
although I don't prefer it. Win9x, OTOH, now that does suck, but not
because of what I read on Usenet.
> Oh, you're a developer, say no more.
I'm not sure I want to know what that's supposed to mean. I mostly
don't write NT or Linux software except as a sideline. The majority of
my code lives inside of some dedicated device.

Everything's behind a FreeBSD firewall except the web/ftp server. I've
seen no evidence of any rootkits. But then, I tend my little Linux
development server in the lab and let the other people do the same.

I actually think it was more a case of paranoia. She just didn't like
the idea of letting people upload at all, so she came up with a reason
to disallow it.

Well, yeah, that's true. I don't think we've every had one. But it is
a small company. If I were to suggest that, chances are good that I'd
be elected to do it <g>.

On this thread earlier, I mentioned Amiga, and what the current
company is up to. At the time I knew they were going to be in involved
in a major, but unnamed PDA. Turns out that it's the Sharp Zaurus, but
the announcement is not widely circulated because the big news was that
that product is switching to Linux. The Amiga DE will run on top of
that, with Java also provided by the Tao Group.
Apparently a few other Linux PDAs will include the Amiga environment.
Just FYI.

I have never had a problem.
I presently have Win98SE on one hard drive, and Linux on the other. I did
have a dual-boot partitioned system that I created with Partition Magic,
but with the falling disk prices I'd recommend keeping the two systems
physically separate. That way MSFT can't sneak up and bite you in the ass
by screwing with the MBR in new and unusual ways. A paltry hundred bucks
buys a heckuva lot of peace of mind.
I can do anything I want to the Windows VFAT disk from Linux, but Win98
doesn't even recognize the Linux EXT2 filesystem. I like it that way,
and I wanna keep it that way.

You're absolutely correct. Most forms of crime involving identity theft
are still being committed the old-fashioned way. Your own mailbox is your
worst enemy; mail theft is still responsible for most of the complaints
filed that allege identity related crimes.
But internet crime is on the rise also as crooks become more sophiticated.
So just assume that everything you put out on the internet is public
information and you can't go wrong.
