Yes, well, it was not clear to me at first whether one needed a more recent
compiler than the current released version, to compile for a v5 ARM archetecture.

And, yes, I would tend to use a 'kernel' compiler long after the most
current release had marched on.

Had I the intended target I would have attempted to run it... but given at
the moment my current problem is finding/setting-up a cross development
environment, getting anything to compile the large chunk of code
relatively cleanly, has been my task.
