hi,
i faced some problems with the smb configuration as well............using DHCP..
neway, check that hostname of your m/c is set properly........though
some of the DHCP servers supply this entry as configuration information.
and other thing is that check that there is an entry added to your /etc/hosts
file for the IP address that has been assigned to your m/c.
