You could block the DNS out bound. Then bring up the connection by
pinging, but what would be the point.
If you used this for http mostly and used a proxy on the other end, try
specifing the proxy by ip address and stopping the link from coming up
for a lookup. I think that one of the files in 0.16 covered this topic. I
remember reading something on the subject of lookups.
