        Did I read correctly in the thread that ping on the INet
still has a longer than -i 5 delay?? Is that with a standard modem?
If so that takes YAM off the hook, at least partially.. You have Tomi
replying - he should know more than most.. My surprises with Slack3.6
and kernel 2.0.35 had it's toll here. Not familiar with YAM so I'm
stumped..

        THAT was the problem. (A little knowledge is a dangerous
thing!) The filesystem section was moved to NLS, at least with this
version - so, not using NLS with my trials, hid it from me... All is
now well and I thank you for prodding my feeble grey matter... :^)

        I fetched it from funet.fi and we are now in good shape until
the next crisis. <grin> In fact, here, 2.0.36 is much cleaner than
2.0.35 for some reason.. Oh well.. Good luck.
