Hi Norman,

not to startup directly into GUI:
1)login as root
2)edit in file /etc/inittab the default runlevel
at the moment it should be set to 5
-> set it to value 3
-> at next boottime the GUI should not start automatically any more
    (only via command: startx)
3)to avoid rebooting directly after editing inittab use the command: telinit 3
4)logout as root

best regards

Werner

The Sparc and Intel processors have different byte ordering and padding
requirements. You'll probably never get this to work. You can put a new
filesystem on it and use it just fine but you can't get the old data off
without
putting the disk in another sparc.

Hi manuif! (is that your real name?)

I think you used to wrong parameters to get your sound card working, my card
uses the same values, but only in DOS mode!

For linux (and Winblows) it uses i/o 0xec00 and irq 10. I´m not quite sure
what the other parameters should be for the sound as a module, since I use
it as biult-into-kernel, but these seem to be the standard values, because
there was nothing to be changed in the config, at least for kernel 2.2.10.

hope this helps

it might be that you have forgotten to put this line

options ide-cd ignore=hdd

into your /etc/conf.modules files.
(but this only helps if you compiled it at least ide-cd as a module!!!
ide-scsi should be a module too)

There seems to be a problem with the device driver (/dev/st0, /dev/nst0)
reading raw data from the DAT tape drive. It will read the first 80 bytes
off the tape correctly. After that it will only adjust the file pointer up
9 characters and start to read again, not the 80 characters it's supposed
to. This happens when the DD command is invoked and when a program opens a
stream to the driver.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

don't. It's an older 2x SCSI drive, but I can't even install until I
get the driver, and none of the drivers available on the boot disk

May I ask but isn't this VMware stuff just another name for sessions-screen groups
that OS/2 uses to run Netware?? We all know that there are about a million
different sessions address spaceses available under OS/2--all 32bit

As of my knowledge, you don't need any drivers for SCSI CD-ROM drives. Al=
l you
the drivers you need are for the SCSI host adapter. After that Linux will
access the SCSI CD-ROM....

Try loading a boot disk module for you scsi host adapter.=20

Type make menuconfig in /usr/src/linux and have a look
under 'general setup' and 'parallel port support' this should be
either selected or have an M for loadable module. Also look under
'character devices' and 'parallel printer support'. Again, this should
be selected or a module.

If neither of the above was true, you will have to compile a new
kernel to include printer and parallel printer support.

You could delete the file libc6_2.1.3.4 from /var/cache/archives,
since there's apparently an error there, and then just apt-get
upgrade again. If that doesn't work, you could either use dpkg to
install that one file (and see what errors you get) or try a
different version of glibc 2.1.

You can get more Debian-specific help from the Debian mailing lists.
