The plant, also called Mandragora, is not mythical, and it wasn't 
poisonous -- just a narcotic, like Belladona. It was used by the 
ancients as an anaesthetic, among other medicinal uses. It's connection 
with the supernatural was due to it's shape, which resembled a man, and 
was the source for popular superstitions since the time of the Greeks.

As for the Linux distro, I guess the name reflects the extensive use of 
configuration wizards :-)
