I only glanced over the actual quote from Ballmer yesterday, but it
looked to me that he was basically saying, "Look, the remedies that
are being imposed on us are so far-reaching that if they are affirmed
by court the only way to comply would be pulling Windows altogether,
because there is no other way we can comply."

This is on the one hand, a reductio ad absurdum argument, on the other
hand, an allusion to a principle that damage caused to the accused
party by remedies cannot be larger that the damage caused by their
action (meaning, pushing M$ out of business altogether is too much).

That was my impression, the long /. thread notwithstanding. I might be
wrong.
