Saying this is not very helpful... Do you know how the spellchecker in
dagesh, word and michal even work? How do you know they didn't spend 10
years of 10 linguists to develop that system?

Some time ago it was mentioned on ivrix-discuss that most of these spell
checkers are the result of the work of a single team of researchers, the
ones who also created "rav-milim" I think (see http://www.melingo.com/ab.htm),
and their technology was later licensed by other companies. The fact that
it "has been done" doesn't mean that you can replicate their work in a week
of late-night hacking...

The approach Dan and I took was a relatively simple one, that we could
have finished in a couple of months if we really put all our efforts into
it. Unfortunately we are both busy over our heads with other things and
this project got abandoned :(

Tzafrir also pointed us to the research of some Technion graduate student
who worked in this area, but I never had time to follow through and see
how much it can fit our needs.

If you have another approach, one that doesn't involve pirating other
companies' word lists, and works, feel free to implement it instead of
just saying "Hebrew is not THAT complicated".

P.S.
If we want to lower the volume of messages in linux-il, I suggest that
discussions specific to implementing Hebrew on Linux (not "a Hebrew mailing
list - pros or cons"!!) be moved to ivrix-discuss.
