Where would you go if you had to get a 32Gb RAM server, much preferably rack-mounted. Don't care so much about CPU or very fast disks, just needs lots of RAM. Can run either Windows (possibly developer's preference) or Linux (my preference).
Strangly enough, we had to deal with a similar need here: we are currently waiting for a very similar setup (16Gb RAM with option for 32, 2 Quad Core processors) to be delivered. Most machine in this perfomance range are targeted towards being a serious production coprporate server, with redudant this and hot swap that and the price tag to match. We found out that if you happen to need the capacity, but not the redundnacy, your best choice is to custom build it, or get a VAR to custom build it for you. We ordered one based on: INTEL SERVER SC5400RA 16 DIMM DUAL XEON DP 1.6 1066 and it cost, with the 16Gb of RAM 4.8k$ not including VAT. The local VAR is 5 Exists, alhough being Oz side right now I reckon this won't help you much - but maybe others. Since they are already late on the promised delivery I will hold recomending buying from them just yet, though :-) Anyway, we had a really funny time getting through to them that yes, we really need a machine with so much RAM and CPU power but with a measly 250 HD SATA disk, no RAID etc. They were sure we don't understand what we asked for... :-) Gilad -- Gilad Ben-Yossef <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Codefidence.
